On citation of legal information

As you may know, the McGill Guide - actually titled the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation - has a new 7th edition for 2010. This edition makes some significant changes to citation, and oh, change can be painful.

The lastest pain in change is that the editors of the 7th edition forgot to ask the courts that adopted the 6th edition if they wanted to adopt the 7th. Things happen. There is a reason for the "amend the pleadings" rules in the Rules of Court.

My take:

If you ware writing a paper, use the McGill 7th for your citation guide.
If you are writing for court, use The Preparation, Citation and Distribution of Canadian Decisions
